In May the FDA authorized fruity flavored vapes, but according to a six page memo the FDA released this week fruity vapes are no better at helping people quit tobacco than tobacco flavored vapes. The authorization of the fruity vapes contradicts the FDAs longstanding position that fruity vapes appeal to children and must show extra health benefits than tobacco flavored vapes. To meet federal standards, companies must show that their products benefit public health, meaning they must demonstrate their products help adult smokers quit or switch without appealing to children.
